I think I’d like
to be an alligator –
sunning all day
on a secluded beach
silently waiting
for breakfast
lunch or dinner
to carelessly
become a menu item
as it unwittingly
saunters by –
mistakenly convinced
that my half-slit eyes
offer no threat
but suggest another
lazy nap spent
thinking about nothing
with that lima
bean brain of mine –
until the fatal snap …
There’d be no worries
about the extra
two hundred pounds
gained from the last
slow-moving wild boar
met in twilight
at river’s edge –
even though it
might later bring
troubling dreams
of boots, belts or purses
to an otherwise
restful snooze.
