Controlled Burn by Liz Hunt

Purposeful renewal
we burn down the forests
of our being

sometimes we cannot wait
for them to blaze
dangerously, uncontrolled.

We force ourselves to grow again
to prepare for when
life gives us no choice.

Liz Hunt is a poet in New Jersey. Her poetry has appeared in the Collective World. Liz’s work is an honest reflection of her journey of reckoning with grief and its impact on her identity.
