Cotter Pin by Martin Indars

Tibet’s oppressed. Arctic ice is getting thin. But all I need is a cotter pin.
If not that a bolt or rivet may do
for my troubles now are small -their fixes are too.

I know, I know Australia’s coral is bleaching while my countrymen celebrate science’s death. But first I’ll go fix the dirt patch out back with sand and soil and my ryegrass sack.

You see I’m on that side of the hill where I see finity and pay less mind to worldly ills neither felt nor heard
from my quiet corner garden in Norwich.

As I seed the dirt I finally see something I can do within arm’s reach. It will not heal the earth or spur civility
but the dog I adopted thinks the world of me.
