Subhuman by Thomas Piekarski

Taking into account imaginary
creatures people consider super,
trolls, gods, spirits and fairies,
one might draw the conclusion
that we mortals are subhuman,
consumed by untimely death,
existing in continual worry
over what will happen next.

Thomas Piekarski is a former editor of the California State Poetry Quarterly.
