Magic
The morning was so quiet you could hear the bees buzzing
You could almost hear the butterfly’s wings fluttering too
The sun was floating low in the east
Suspended like an orb of soft rosy hue
A walker out strolling slowed his pace to a crawl
Soaking in the peaceful presence and the magic of it all.
Repose
Late afternoon
Sentient sun
Dabbled shadows
Robin singing
Sky blue
Puffy white clouds
Aspen leaves shimmering
On the backyard patio
The old couple sits
Reading and sipping iced tea
Occasionally chatting
Feeling the warmth of the sun
The coolness of the breeze
The peace of being together
Even after all these years
Silently they smile at one another
A butterfly flutters by
Simultaneously
They reach out and hold hands
They smile
The day slows to a heartbeat
Full of love.
Cosmos
Orion and the Pleiades
Slowly spin through space
An eternal cosmic dance
Dusted with the shimmering
Flickering memory
Of long-dead stars
On the horizon above the tree line
Moonlit lakes glisten
Northern lights shimmer in time
To streaming photons
Turning red and green
As they bombard the Earth’s atmosphere
Awakening
The eye to the color
The mind to the imagination
And the heart to a special
Kind of wonder
Found only on the edge
Of eternity.
Hummingbird
Hot summer morning
An old couple stand quietly
Looking out the screen door
Into the front yard garden
Suddenly like magic
A hummingbird appears
Iridescent green feathers
Shining in the golden sun
She darts here and there
Feeding on purple coneflowers
Yellow rudbeckia
And candy colored phlox
She is a joy
Flitting through the garden feeding
Unexpectedly
She darts to them
Hovering closely for a moment
Checking them out
Delighting them with her antics
Then she speeds off
Gone in a blink of the eye moment
Leaving behind two smiles
And a special memory
Of a rare moment in time
When a little bird
Charmed two old people
Unconditionally.
Contemplating
Spending time gardening
Working among the pretty flowers
Enjoy the peace and solitude
Then resting
Looking around
Contemplating the beauty
Nature has to offer
Thoughts drifting to my son
Lost now from us
Living on only in memory
Getting used to this new way
Of living
It’s taking time
But it’s working
Friends tell me so at least
That’s good
Life is going on
Flowers in the garden are blooming
They must be cared for
Bees buzz
Birds sing
Butterflies flutter
A world of wonder
All around
I watch
Recharging emotional batteries
Not wanting to miss
A thing.
